2940u2w and alpha (alphabios 5.66 on a pc164lx)

has anybody got any suggestions as to how i can get the above to work
i have an adaptec 2940u2w with a 9g seagate cheetah and a philips cd writer
i also have a panasonic ls-120 (but that is not too important)

i have temporarily stuck an ide disk into the machine and can boot it from a dos
partition no problem

what i cannot do is get the alphabios to recognise that the adaptec is indeed a
scsi controller which has a disk hanging off it

even though i could probably build a milo which recognised the adaptec - the bios
refuses to boot off the floppy saying there is no valid hard disk (it does not
consider an ide-based ls-1200 to be a hard disk - maybe rightly so)

i've been at this for 4 months now and so if some of you (perhaps also rightly so)
consider this to be off-topic then i'm truly sorry

the fact is i have two of these machines (identical) and have sunk serious amounts
of money into them

please, please, please somebody help me to get them working
