CDROM Errors, 2.4.0-test1...

Apologies if this has been reported before...

I have one of the new Toshiba DVD/CDRW all in one drives. It was working
fine under 2.3.99pre5, (using ide-scsi). Now I've upgraded to 2.4.0-test1,
and it doesn't work. First, the vendor string is all wrong when SCSI
reports it (It's not just byte-swapped either). Then whenI try and mount a
simple cdrom (that works in different machines, and I've tried several, I
get messages like this in my logs:

pianoman kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.
pianoman last message repeated 2 times
pianoman kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.
pianoman kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: Read TOC 02 00 00 00 00
02 0
pianoman kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.
pianoman last message repeated 2 times
pianoman last message repeated 3 times

and, of course, it doesn't work. The is the first kernel I've tried that's
had anything wrong with it (barring pre8 which oopsed on startup).

here's what SCSI reports...

scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices
scsi : 1 host.
  Vendor: TOWO[JIb Model: EvDVo_o_dV=r12 Rev: 1230

sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 35x/83x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.08

and hdparm...

pianoman:/var/log# hdparm -i /dev/hdd

..any ideas? Generic SCSI layer? ide-scsi? cdrom layer?
