matrox+history+xoff=fbcon/linux crash?

I don't know if anyone ran across this yet.

I have a dual celeron-300A at 300MHz, with PCI Matrox Millenium II with
4MB WRAM. I'm using fbcon as a module at 1024x768.

If I cause a lot of scrolling, like ls -alR / and then shift-pageup for
virtual console scrolling, and combine it with a few control-S's, I can
reliably get my computer's console to completely crash. No more keyboard
responses are accepted. Any ideas what's going on, or is it bad hardware?

Running: Linux-2.4.0-test1 SMP, the problem also exists in 2.3.99-pre3,
don't know of any other kernels which this occurs in. 2.2.15 appears to
be safe though (but this is on my laptop's VESA framebuffer, and it's
single-CPU)

Thanks,
-bc
