Hi Andre,
I do not know, whether it is well known problem or not,
but today I came to my Linux 2.3.27-SMP and found that kernel complained
about my IDE:

hda: timeout waiting for DMA
hda: irq timeout: status = 0xd0 { Busy }
hda: DMA disabled
ide0: reset: success
hda: status error: status = 0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
hda: drive not ready for command
bug: kernel timer added twice at c0185218
hda: read_intr: status = 0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }
hda: read_intr: status = 0xd0 { Busy }
ide0: reset: success
hda: status error: status = 0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
hda: drive not ready for command
hda: status error: status = 0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
hda: drive not ready for command
bug: kernel timer added twice at c0185218
hda: read_intr: status = 0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }

and that's all :-( No more disk activity after this point (but rest of
system stayed up).
Hardware is dual PIII/450, Soltek 68A (i440BX), harddrive is single
WD418000AC (18GB WD) running in UDMA33 mode. Kernel is 2.3.27,
SMP, CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEPCI, _IDEDMA_PCI, _IDEDMA_NEW_DRIVE_LISTING,
_PCI_EXPERIMENTAL, _PIIX, _PIIX_TUNING, _IDEDMA set to YES.
c0185218 is ide_set_handler+64/78.
It happened somewhere around 8:58 am., logs indicate light ftp activity
and nothing else.
Thanks,
Petr Vandrovec
