Re: how many files per dir possible?

The program loic creates argv[1] (500,000) files in a directory. We
expect to improve these numbers by an order of magnitude, and by
revising the program loic we can improve it by more than a factor of two
already, but here I use the unsophisticated version of the program.

[root@yoda /testfs]# cd bigdir
time /root/benchmarks/loic 500000
6.32user 225.91system 9:28.89elapsed 40%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k
[root@yoda bigdir]# cd ..
[root@yoda /testfs]# time rm -rf bigdir
2.70user 176.97system 10:57.14elapsed 27%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k
