It didn't for me... I had to log in on ssh, and reboot the machine...

Yes, Esc c is a console reset that roughly speaking should not
touch the keyboard side. For some obscure reason a few kbd things
are reset by it nevertheless.

But reboot -- what a bad habit, when you have source..
Next time, try, e.g., "kbd_mode -a".
