Dynamic setting of Always-Degragment and Optimize-as-Router.

Hi:

I'm trying to come up with a common image which I can use on all of my
machines. The one problem which I am running into is that my gateway's kernel
is built slightly differently, i.e. it has "Always Degragment" and "Optimize as
Router not Host" set, whereas my other machines do not. Is there a way, e.g.
something in "/proc", to change these settings dynamically so that a special
version of the kernel for the gateway would not be required?

May I ask that answers from those reading linux-kernel be returned via e-mail
as I find the traffic therein a bit overwhealming. Thanks.
