IA-32: 36 bit addressing, 2/4 MB Pages

Hi Folks,

I was wondering what the state of the kernel is for 36 bit addressing
and 2/4 MB pages on the IA-32 platform.

I searched through the kernel source and found nothing, but it
seems I have heard about it before.

If there is support which I missed, I would appreciate pointers to
instructions on how to enable/configure this. Ideally, I would like to
use different combinations (4k page / 32 bit, 4M page / 32 bit page,
4k pages / 36 bit, 2M page / 36 bit), and be able to mix 4k and 4M
pages (and preferably select which one from a user mode page allocation
routine).

I also seem to have heard there is some problem with using 4M pages
while doing MP. I would like more information on this, as we will
definitely be doing MP with 4MB pages.

I will be adding support for this if it's not there. I would just
like to get a feel of what's there already before I start.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Terry Murphy (speaking only for myself)
