2.1.127 slows down and almost freezes on i386

Hello,

I have just tested 2.1.127 on my PC. I ran it for about 1 hour, maybe
a little more. I had an idle remote X session open (KDE, Netscape
Communicator and not much else), and I was using XEmacs with Gnus on
the (text) console. I noticed that Gnus was displaying articles slower
and slower, like maybe 1/2 to 1 second to show an article. I tried to
log in on another virtual terminal, and bash took nearly 1 minute to
load and execute its rc scripts (mainly run fortune). I closed XEmacs
and the X session, all of which closed at "normal" speed. Then I ran
top on my (already open) tty, while waiting for the shell prompt to
come up on 2 other ttys; machine load was about 7, with processes such
as mcserv, innwatch, wwwoffled and my 2 loading bashes using about 15%
CPU each, whereas most of them were supposed to be idle. When my root
prompt finally came up, I ran reboot; it started stopping services
extremely slowly, like it stopped gpm, wwwoffle, mcserv and the NFS
server in half an hour. My cron fired up a PPP connection during the
shutdown process; it failed (apparently due to some timeout from my
box), but the "ppp line discipline successfully unregistered" message
took more than 15 minutes to appear in the system logs. I finally did
a hard reset, not wanting to wait for several hours for my box to
reboot.

The same box has run 2.1.125 since it is out without problems; I stop
it for the night, but it runs 12 or 15 hours a day. I have not tried
2.1.126.
