strange lockups - for a -long- time. Ideas?

My computer locks up under high CPU/Bus activity...

eg: mp3 playing
recording audio tracks onto a CD
Doing fsck....
fbcon video driver just writing characters sometimes....
(Vesa-2 [s3vbe20] or GGI ViRGE driver *grin*)

It does -not- lockup under Windows but that could just mean windows is too
inefficient to trigger it...

Let's see.
Cyrix 200+ (non-MMX)
40MB ram
FIC PA-2007 motherboard
Several HD's (1.2G,2G,3G EIDE, 512MB,250MB SCSI (Adaptec))
CD-recorder is HP 7200 (external parallel-port - very nice :)

GUS usually does not crash.
Crystal 4237 crashes (also isapnp sometimes errors out - but this works
if I shut the computer off after working under windows... ??? :)
[I try to avoid windows]
Sound Blaster 16 also crashes

Happened for a -very- long time. I've asked about this before but never
had a response (IIRC).

It's a complete lockup. No logs. No message. Everything just freezes.

G'day, eh? :)
