First of all, I'm not sure Ed Strong's comments had anything to do with
me. The only Mr Johnson I know I've talked to is Micheal Johnson at
Redhat and my dealings with him have always been very pleasant.

So I think you might be assuming something incorrectly here.

: LM is a know it all.. Sometime's he's VERY annoying.. But unfortuantly
: he's usually VERY right. I've argued with him. He was right. I wish he
: wasn't because he attitude is tough.

My apologies if I was annoying you needlessly.

I do tend toards the know-it-all in areas where I feel I can claim
I know-at-least-quite-a-bit. I get more vocal when I'm dealing with
people that pretty clearly don't know as much and aren't listening.
It's worth mentioning that I monitor this list for one reason and one
reason only: to do what I can to help make Linux get better or at least
not get worse. If I annoy, it is absolutely not intended to be personal.
I forget that not everyone has learned the difference between:

"that is a stupid idea" // not personal
"you are a stupid person" // very personal

It's sort of basic to any spirited discussion that ideas can be shot
down as bad without implying that the person who had the idea is bad.
And I try hard to keep it out of the personal by focussing on the ideas,
but not everyone sees it that way.

I strongly suspect that when Mr Gooch is told "that's a bad idea", he
hears "you're a stupid person". It would explain his persecution complex.

: Perhaps the price of being right so much is that you sound too sure. :)

Yeah, I suppose. For what it is worth, I really don't want to be one of
those old nay-sayers that tell everyone else that they are doing the wrong
thing without trying to help them do the right thing. I too have been
frustrated by that sort of person. However, helping people is a two way
street and perhaps Mr Gooch is more of a one way person.
