Framebuffer and 2.1.118

I've been trying to make framebuffer support work in 2.1.118,
(actually since 2.1.115).

I've enabled the support for framebuffer devices, and vesafb (I
followed the framebuffer-HOWTO), the howto told me to try and type 0301 at
the vgamode selection prompt, but the kernel says, that mode (and any other
mode the HOWTO suggests) are invalid.

I'me pretty sure I've selected the right options in the kernel config, do I
need to do anything else than that, and add VGA=ASK to lilo.conf?

I also checked I booted the right kernel :)

btw, I have a dual asus board, with 2*P200mmx, and a Diamond FireGL 1000 pro.

Regards,
