Thought I'd mention that the scrollback in vgacon now works. Haven't
tested vesafb for this though, will test next time I'm back at work -
currently on holiday for this week and next week.
I have also consumed the current HOWTO-vesafb into HOWTO-framebuffer, this
new HOWTO covers the non-Intel platforms as well as Intel platforms. Feel
free to mosey on over to:

The older HOWTO-vesafb.html is now defunct and will be deleted in a few
