The facts don't fit your claim. I've just spent 3 days studying reports
and chasing after people.
Two people has 2.0 DMA problems, many people have 2.1 DMA problems.
Many people who have SCSI have 2.1 problems but do not have 2.0 problems.
Hello Linus get a clue - there is a/some problem(s) with 2.1, IDE DMA is a
symptom not a cause. Fix causes not symptons. You've used exactly that
argument to force people to keep patching their kernels for kgdb support
for years now live by it.
BTW: Have you checked Ingo's bug report on a possible race introduced in
the IDE driver in 2.1 ???

I've spent three days collecting evidence with the aim of producing the
blacklist. The overwhelming conclusion from the data I have is simple
THE BLACKLIST IS LINUX 2.1, IT IS NOT THE DRIVES
I have only _one_ person who has a drive that fails in both Linux and
Windows of all the people who are using UDMA/mode 2 DMA on _BOTH_ systems
I have one person whose drive does UDMA faultlessly in FreeBSD and Linux
2.0 but not Linux 2.1
