Is this the infamous "CDR-210" drive from NEC? It sucks badly.
It can't work with parity enabled. We had a system here with one of
those in it, and regularly (at least once a day) the SCSI bus would get
troubles:

Jun 29 02:37:52 janux kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 74671
11, scsi0, channel 0, id 1, lun 0 Write (6) 16 0f dc 02 00
[...]
Jun 29 02:37:54 janux kernel: SCSI host 0 abort (pid 7467111) timed out - resetting
Jun 29 02:37:54 janux kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.

Note that the NEC was ID 3, so it interfered with the other devices on
the bus - and the NEC drive wasn't being accessed at all... This is with
an Adaptec 3940 (dual channel) adapter and 2.0.33.

It's now been replaced, and everything works fine.
