Depends on the usage pattern. With a classic news server you're right.
(Now that INN 2.0 is out and rather stable there is a solution for
news which gets at the root of the problem, but that's a different
thing :-)
But there's a special case: you never want to shrink the /lost+found
directory, or e2fack will break...
