2.1.109 and demand dialing

I've been playing with demand dialing on 2.1.x kernels since the feature
was included with little or no success until 2.1.109. I've had a line:
idle 120 \
in /etc/ppp/options but ppp wouldn't bring down the link. My ISP sends
some sort of "are you there" packet every five seconds which my system
responds to. ppp sees this as link activity which I couldn't filter out
and therefore the link never goes down. I've been unable to figure this
out. However, in 2.1.109 demand dialing is working for me again.

Thank you whoever made a change which made this function as I thought it
should.

I'm also NOT getting the screenshift others are noting, but then I'm
running a monolithic kernel so that isn't surprising.
