The debug-logs show a distinctive pattern:
Sent ... <1> ...
Rcvd ...<2> ...
Sent ... <2> ...
Sent ... <1> ...
Rcvd ... <3> ...
Sent ... <3> ...
Sent ... <1> ...
There never is a response to frame number 1, and
eventually pppd hangs up due to LCP negotiation
time-out.
I can send the actual debug-logs, if you like. Sometime
after the 19th, when I get back in town, I'm planning to try
applying patches one by one and recompiling until the
bug appears, but that's a time-consuming process.
I did a diff between files *ppp*, *ser*, *slhc*, and *tty* in
both source trees. The only difference of note that I can
find is in tty_io.c, but I don't understand enough of what is
going on to guess how it would affect ppp connections.
I'm using the beta Debian 2.0 distribution, glibc-2.0.6.
I downloading and compiled a fresh copy of pppd-2.3.5
just in case it was a kernel mis-match problem, but that
didn't change anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there's anything
I can do or send, please let me know.
