IMHO, any assumptions made based on "what a user would ever need to do"
is a dangerous one. As has been cited often enough, the 640K limitation in DOS
was result of this sort of assumption. What user would ever need more ram
than that? And all the Y2K nonsense could be attributed to the same sort of
reasoning.
