I have discovered what appears to be a bug with the configurable files in
/proc/ide.

Writing zero-length strings to the configuration files results in a freeze.

This can be repeated doing:
# echo "">/proc/ide/ide1/hdd/settings
- or -
# echo "">/proc/ide/ide1/config

The system's loadavg also slowly rises until the shell from which the
command was executed is killed.
