2.0.34pre9 Com Port Hassles

I must be hitting every single bug.. man this is bad for business...

Serial Port hassles on x86 w/ 2.0.34 are happening here. Here is the
situation:

Mgetty is sitting on /dev/ttyC1
Mgetty sends AT to modem
MOdem responds with OK
modem reports RING to mgetty
Mgetty sends ATA
Modem justs sits there and doesn't connect

I unitt mgetty from inittab
I hook minicom up to it and it inits just fine
I type ATA and it answers
I quit minicom
I reinit mgetty
now mgetty will answer again (until it breaks again)

Now, mgetty has been answering calls before this happened.
