2.0.33: SMBFS copy currupts mtime entries on NT4 server

I am using a Redhat 4.2 intel client here at work, editing files held on an
NTAS 4.0 server mounted using smbfs.

I can read, write and generally manipulate files fine, except that the date
stamp on the files on the NT box seem to get updated to some random value from
year 1906 to around 2030. I only have to read the files, and the modified
time (as seen on an NT box) changes. Created time is unaffected.

kernel is 2.0.33
smbmount is 2.0.2

Server is NTAS for intel 4.0 service pack 3.

This is totally repeatable on every file on the server, so if anyone has any
ideas I would like to get this fixed before this starts fuelling anti
Linux feelings within the company.
