But what if Linux where in the hardware biz? I am thinking along the lines
of 'Free' GNU licenced CPU/Platform written in VHDL and developed along
the lines of Linux (allcomers contribute via the net). Just a thought....

Yes, Dave, you can compile your CPU............

Just another thought, if such a GNU VHDL platform existed, we could link
the makefiles so that changing your hardware automaticaly configures and
optimises the kernel.....
