Multiple make processes?

Would it be possible to set up a system that would compile two kernel
branches at once? This might take a little better advantage of SMP
kernels (I'm not sure, I don't study SMP much).. This would be the
drivers, fs, net type directories - not the actually library combines in
arch to make the full kernel. It just came to mind... Would this already
be implemented in pmake, or am I way off on some weird idea?
