kernel too big?

I tried building 2.1.25...I get this on what
I think was reasonable (and still having lots of modules:

tools/build bootsect setup compressed/vmlinux.out CURRENT > zImage
Root device is (3, 5)
Boot sector 512 bytes.
Setup is 1252 bytes.
System is 513 kB
System is too big

I removed scsi support (make it a module) and then was able to build...

How big is too big?
