Just upgrade to 2.0.x and get procps 1.01 and run the mknewpty program,
make sure your telnetd supports them, and you're in business. Make sure
you patch mknewpty to fix the following bug...it will create:
ptyp0 / ttyp0 to ptyEf / ttyEf
You really want
ptyp0 / ttyp0 to ptyef / ttyef
