Note that the original Intel EtherExpress Pro cards had a 82556 chip.
Intel quietly "changed" the card to one using a 82557 chip, and calls
that card the "B version". It is, in fact, a completely different
card. Even the DOS drivers etc. are not interchangeable.
We were bitten by this, because we had ordered a couple of these cards
to go into a Solaris 2.4 system. They weren't recognized. Closer
inspection revealed that these cards were different than the originals,
and are not and will not be supported by Solaris 2.4.
Hence, the Linux driver for these things will have to be changed to
work for the "B version" Intel EtherExpress Pro.
Intel seems to make it a point to be a cause of aggravation...
