ppp setup problems

Hi there,
I had a problem howto setting up ppp connection on my linux box
at home, I use red hat linux, my kernel is support the ppp connection, I
edited the /usr/sbin/ppp-on script. And I run it everything it seem to
work fine, but it won't pass the LCP stuff. it gave me error LCP:time out
Configure-request. So, I went to check on my /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file.
in the pap-secrets I have ..

#remote account password IP address list
* some-name some-pass

what should I do?.. anybody have any ideas for me ?
