Hello!
Here goes my first report on the issue.

I just checked - the problem persists with 2.6.17.7
It only shows when irqbalance is running, without irqbalance the box is stable.

Error message is somewhat changed with the new kernel:
ata2: command 0xca timeout, stat 0x50 host_stat 0x4
ata2: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete }
sda: Current: sense key=0x0
ASC=0x0 ASCQ=0x0
Info fld=0x1f5c9b5

I attach new dmesg log and lspci output.
