That's what the GPL is for. For most users it will be *good*
to have the ability to run "standard" programs on their Linux
distribution, regardless of which distro they're running.

Embedded systems builders always have the freedom of using
something else. Hell, they could even set their own standard
for an Embedded Linux API if they wanted (based on a very much
smaller libc or whatever)...
