Strange behaviour of 2.2.16 Makefile

Hi,

I was playing around with 2.2.16 and reapplying all my patches, and I
walked into something strange :

Changing a file (dquota.c in my case), then doing a make, made the make
process stop at the poing were System.map is created. Then it dies.

No warnings, errors, or anything..

Doing a make dep before the make fixes it.

I'm missing something here ??
