I can make aic7xxx work with the following patch.

However, I have no idea whether this is *necessary*, or whether
there is still an underlying problem in the driver, or what (if
anything) is the *right* thing to do.
This merely worked (twice at least) for me.

I came to this patch by looking at the old and new code in scsi_scan
and asking my self "what is different that doesn't obviously need to
be different".
