Is Zam on the linux-mm list? It sounds like his work is related to
some other VM stabilisation work pending for 2.4, and if he can get
useful stubs into that in time, it may still be possible to get it
into the shipping kernel in time (especially if there is demonstrably
zero impact on existing filesystems). See
