Plans for 2.5 / 2.6 ???

Having slept on my posts of yesterday, I realize that I was quite
stupid. Bad idea put badly into words and backed up badly. Sorry for
wasting your time.

To prevent myself from looking like a total jerk, I'm just asking
questions this time.

With 2.4.0 coming up soon and the split to the new devel following
very close behind, I was just wondering what everybody's plans are
for the next kernel release. I know there are a lot of little things
that people are going to do anyway, but I'm talking about the big
stuff. A couple of open questions to everybody, especially maintainers,
follow.

1. What big internal API &c changes need to be made?

2. What new subsystems need to be added?

3. Where does the code need reorganization?

4. What new drivers will be added? Is somebody already working on them?
Does their work need to be modified because of 1-3 before it can
   be merged?

5. What changes need to be made to external APIs? What software will
   this affect?

6. What code can be cleaned up? What code can be commented more?

7. As a result of 1-6, what documentation regarding the kernel
(e.g., linux/Documentation/*, internal docs, and external guides)
   will need to be updated?

8 - 13: 1-6 above with wants instead of needs.

14- Anything I have missed... (probably a lot)

I hope that you will preceive this as for your benefit, not mine. If
I learn something as a result of your answers, great, but that is
not my intent. Instead, I hope that you will learn something from
answering these questions and seeing others' answers.

Again, this is for you, not me.

Just a minor hint that after all goals stated in maintainers' answers
to the above questions are attained that there should be a feature
freeze? Nah, I won't suggest anything that radical.

In the mean time, I'll be working on the port of uClinux to the TI-89 and
92. If you are also interested in this, I refer you to previous posts
on lkml by myself and others.

Kenneth
