It can get even smaller: we are using miniperl (the "bootstrap" Perl that
is used to build the full Perl distribution) to bootstrap supported systems
in ECE. This requires miniperl and on some platforms (DUX/Tru64; not
relevant to this discussion) libperl.so.
However, that's somewhat beside the point. I'm not sure it makes a lot of
sense to require *anything* beyond bash. (Pity there's no widely available
wbash, though....)
