writing opps to /dev/lp0

Hi,
how can I write kernel oppses to /dev/lp0?
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/serial-console.txt states that this can
be done.

I have a line in lilo.conf :
append = "console=/dev/lp0"
but when my 2.3.99-pre9 oopses nothing is written to lp0.
What am i doing wrong or what is needed to redirect kernel oopses to
/dev/lp0
