I'm seeing the same thing on pre9-[12]. In addition the system appears
to see the floppy as readonly, whether or not the write-protect tab was
set. Oddly enough, dropping back to 2.3.47 and doing a lo-level format
(fdformat /dev/fd0H1440) appears to have "fixed" the problem. I still
get the "Trying to lock..." message, but at least I can create a
filesystem on the floppy and mount it.
