HELP: apm disabling sound in 99-3??

hello,

noticed this and tracked it down as far as i could:
on my laptop the sound is disabled after a while, possibly by the apm system...

Anything known about that or any workaround?
soudn and apm are compiled as modules, but once blocked i cannot remove the
sound modules, they claim to be busy....

System beep continues to work, but i suspect that this is something different
:)
BTW i am using linux kernel2.3.99-3 on a debian-woody system....
