Rebooting ought to do it.

/etc/issue is only for network logins and means nothing. Having said
that, it's set by `uname -a` at bootup.

Oh, and make sure you set up /etc/lilo.conf to boot your new kernel
and reran /sbin/lilo to save the changes.
