Looking over this again... Is it possible that an old version of e2fsprogs
could cause this? Or an old version of mount? This kernel is being
run on a redhat 5.2 system... With all the associated old libraries
that it comes with IE glibc2.0 old e2fsprogs old file-utils etc...
