We have a similar setup, but with an Athlon/500 and a 13 GB Seagate
ST313032A.

I have added the ide patches from
ftp.XX.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/hedrick/ and have that drive
running smoothly with DMA since then.

XX is your top-level-domain code, try uk in your case.
