Had this forever on my Latitude PII 300 XT. IIRC the standard RH6.0
 kernel had no problem recognizing the cd-rom. Mine is recognized
 from any kernel *only* after a cold boot (shutdown w/poweroff then
 reboot). Any warm boot gets the above. If that annoys you you can
 also say hdc=noprobe hdd=noprobe as I have :)
