OK - got the requested information - also can see that
this whole thing was a false alarm. . .

The before and after of the original post was the difference
between the PAE and non-PAE code path **NOT** the calculation!
My bad, wasn't careful enough in my testing.

I have in-lined the difference between with/without the patch;
and attached the "patched" dmesg output.
