I wanted to post some strace output on the pump command in case someone could
lend some help with my problem. Briefly, I am able to configure my second
ethernet connection (eth1) with kernel 2.2.9-19 form the stock mandrake 6.0
release but when I try to so with a newly compiled 2.2.13 kernel I get this
error message:

Any ideas what could be causing this? As I already mentioned there are no
problems with the 2.2.9 kernel that ships with Mandrake 6.0.

Thanks...
