- It uses the VFS for standardness
afaik devfs doesn'tgo through VFS. This is one of Ted T'so's
problems with devfs iirc.
- It only makes available a small centrally accessable
namespace for drivers to register device nodes, and
does not force it's use.
important distinction:
devfs /maintains/ a namespace, the actual names are decided by
drivers themselves.
anyway... please let's stop discussing devfs..
