Why don't you apply a seperate patch to support:

Sound: ALSA or OSS
Video: fbcon, KGI, I dunno
Network: Too numerous
PCMCIA: ....
USB:
IRD:
ISDN:
WAN interfaces:
Health monitoring:
FPU:
etc etc etc...
