First comment is that you mentioned kdevname(ROOT_DEV) but the output
you quoted seems to use bdevname(ROOT_DEV).
Also, on most systems (at least on most of my systems) /etc/mtab is a
symbolic link to /proc/mounts, so with your patch df and mount will break,
won't they?
