My lockups/crashes do not involve NFS or X (neither is used on servers), but
seem to involve disk i/o, Adaptec 7990 SCSI Ultra2 LVD wide, WD 18300.
I would suggest it might be the disk IO involved in the large NFS transfer,
not NFS itself that tickles the problem.
