So maybe the fixes could be applied in 2.3.x (and consequently be in
2.4), and require a newer binutils than 2.2.x does. In my experience
installing an upgraded binutils is no more difficult than configuring
and building a kernel - so requiring a binutils upgrade _should_ not
be too onerous.
