Actually, while responding to his post, you completely missed the comment
-HE- was replying to.

In a voice switching situation, traditional hardware modems don't do the
job. A software-driven DSP is perfect (if you can assure real-time
control) for building voice switches from. With hardware no more expensive
than the PC I'm sitting in front of right now.
